Cohort Retention Lab

A six-module intensive for analysts and hybrid PMs who already write SQL but still lose the room when retention slides appear.

Learners collaborating with laptops in a bright classroom

Modules

  1. Definitions before plots. Codify retained, resurrected, and churned with your stakeholders in the room.
  2. Cohort carpentry. Build windows that match product reality, not vendor defaults.
  3. Activation leak maps. Trace early exits against instrumentation and UX gates.
  4. Segment honesty. Split by platform, locale, and acquisition without drowning the narrative.
  5. Experiment overlays. Annotate ship dates; separate hope from evidence.
  6. Leadership briefs. Deliver a three-page retention note scored against our rubric.

Learning outcomes

  • Produce a definition sheet your PM and data lead both sign.
  • Explain a D30 movement with caveats a skeptical CFO accepts.
  • Prioritize one experiment from a leak map without overclaiming lift.
  • Run a 12-minute retention stand-up that leaves time for decisions.

Reviews from this course

The Module 5 overlay sheet finally gave us a place to put ship dates without pretending every bump was causal.

Useful overall. The SQL warm-ups assumed more window-function comfort than our junior analyst had, so pair seats carefully.

FAQ

Do I need a company dataset?

No. We provide an anonymized marketplace dataset. Bring-your-own is optional and must be scrubbed of personal data.

What is a real limitation of this lab?

We do not teach full causal inference stacks or Bayesian hierarchical models. If you need that depth, we will say so and point you elsewhere rather than stretch Module 5.

Timezone?

Live sessions run in Indochina Time from our Bangna studio, with recordings for remote learners.
